For those times when you’re unlucky enough to lock yourself out of your home, the solution is pretty obvious. Try to contact anyone who may have a spare key, check to see if you’ve left a downstairs window open, and when all else fails, call a locksmith. But how many of us would know what to do if you lock yourself out of your car?
Finding yourself without access to your vehicle can seem like a nightmare. Car keys aren’t the kind of item where you leave spares with a neighbour. Many people are tempted to break a car window, but this can be costly in the long-run, dangerous to do, time-consuming to clear up after, and doesn’t look particularly good to passers-by.
Luckily, there is a solution – the same solution you’d go to when locked out of your house – and that is to call a locksmith. Not everyone would consider a locksmith for vehicle locking problems, but any good locksmith will offer auto services too.
Auto locksmith services
A good locksmith can help you out with numerous locking issues when it comes to your vehicle. The most common issue is motorists who have lost their keys, either due to misplacing them, or having dropped them somewhere irretrievable such as down a storm drain. In this case, a locksmith will be able to provide a replacement set, and in some cases, remove the old set from the motor vehicle’s database to disable any remote locking abilities.
Another common issue is old or damaged keys which have snapped off within the door or ignition. Irrespective of where you choose to source replacement keys, in this instance you’ll still need help removing the broken fragment before any new keys can be used. In some cases, a damaged key may become stuck or lodged, and unable to turn. This is a similar instance in which a locksmith will be able to retrieve the faulty key, as well as helping you gain access to your vehicle again.
Let’s not also forget the other main access point on a vehicle, which of course is the boot. Not having access to the boot may not be as critical a problem as not having access to your car, but it’s still an essential part of your vehicle that you’ll want functioning properly. If you find the locking mechanism on your boot isn’t working the way it should be, this is another job for a locksmith.
